Elemental Analysis

Description of the technique

The analyzer configuration CHNS operates on the basis of the combustion dynamics of the sample. The sample is weighed on a tin capsule and is introduced along with a quantity of oxygen, through an automatic sampler, in a reactor of combustion.
After combustion, the gas produced, N2, CO2, H2O and SO2 are transported by a stream of helium through a layer of copper, contents of the reactor, and then separated by a column of GC and finally detected by a thermal conductivity detector (TCD). The total analysis time is 12 minutes.
The equipment is completely controlled by computer, through software and the corresponding end of the analysis is issued a full report with the results of the values of CHNS in total percentage.

Description of the apparatus

Elemental Analyzer (Thermo Finnigan-CE Instruments, Italy), model Flash EA 1112 CHNS series.

Sample

Solid or liquid  homogenous samples (2-3 mg). In the case of multiple replicas, this value must be proportional.

Request for services

There is a request for each equipment that must be completed and signed by the person responsible. The tests are performed in order of entry into the service. The results are usually delivered within 24 hours, at most. In the case of trials of longer duration and depending on the number of samples, the time is agreed with the applicant.
Only the technician can use the device, however it is allowed direct contact with the various equipment, through a brief theoretical accompanied by a practical demonstration, if so requested.

Download here a request form.

The filled request form should be sent to Carla Rodrigues
