Research Interests
In the last 10 years I point the following as my main research interests:

- Kinetic and spectroscopic studies of metalloproteins
- Iron metabolism (Bacterial ferritins and Dps protein)
- Cellular detoxification (Superoxide reductases)
- Characterization of reaction intermediates in relevant enzymatic processes (mainly focusing iron metabolism and cellular detoxification)
- Effect of ionizing radiation applied to DNA protection/repair enzymes

All these studies have been performed by means of:

- Spectroscopy – Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), Mössbauer, Fluorescence and UV-Visible
- Molecular biology – Protein cloning and mutagenesis
- Heterologous expression - Protein overexpression using E. coli strains as host systems
- Protein purification - Different types of chromatographic media, HPLC and FPLC systems
- Analytical methods – Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE and agarose gels), protein and metal quantification
- Fast kinetic techniques - Stopped-Flow and Rapid Freeze-Quench
