The “Summer School UCIBIO-NOVA - Initiation to Research in Applied Biomolecular Sciences”, under the scope of Verão com Ciência has finished, after a 3-month intensive period. Funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), UCIBIO-NOVA hosted 15 graduated and master students, integrated within the initiative of promoting exclusively presential classes at Summer Schools. The coordinator of the UCIBIO NOVA Summer School, Eurico Cabrita, reinforces that “our aim has been accomplished, we gave the opportunity to these students to develop skills science communication, critical analysis of results, critical thinking and teamwork, and simultaneously, focus on scientific training based on experimentation”. Details of the research projects developed by the students can be found here.
The 15 students that participated in this program have been introduced to scientific research practices through the development of an experimental projects in the area of Applied Biomolecular Sciences. The summer school has ended with a Scientific Symposium that included three days of scientific presentations and debate, which took place between the 21st and 23rd of October. The program of the event can be found here.
The Verão com Ciência constitutes a special support to “Summer Schools” in Polytechnics and Universities launched in the summer of 2020 to support classroom activities, associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Program, in response to the pandemic of COVID-19.
