Main research interests

  • Peroxiredoxin 2 and other erythrocyte antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase and catalase) interplay with the red blood cell membrane and their importance in healthy and patological conditions as oxidative stress biomarkers.
  • Study of the erythrocyte antioxidant system in several etiologically distinct anemias associated to oxidative stress (human models), such as, Hereditary Spherocytosis, Sickle Cell Anemia, Thalassemias, Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency.
  • Search for accurate and early-on biomarkers of cardiovascular events (CE) on patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) (Stages 1-5) and evaluation of mortality associated to CE in CKD patients on hemodialysis.
  • development and characterization biomaterials with antioxidant/anti-inflammatory proprieties, namely, modified biomaterials to be used as hemodialysis membranes
